Swimsuits or bathing suits are a type of clothing or wear which is worn at the time of any water based activities. It is worn at the time of swimming, diving, playing water polo and also water skiing. It is also worn as a under garment in time of scuba diving, surfing, wakeboarding and many other water sports. It is also used as a medium to display the body, especially in fashion shows and beauty pageants. It is the most favorite dress code for model photographers for any glamour related magazines or shows.

Competitive swimwear are basically used for competition as the name suggests. These are basically wore for swimming competition and it is of special low resistance fabric. These types of swimwear reduce skin drag and they sometimes resembles to be skin-tight one-piece garment with long legs and sometimes long sleeves. Competitive swimsuits are worn by swimming athletes and competitors in swimming, and they are very much different from regular or normal swimsuits. Competitive swimsuits are designed in such a way that it reduces friction and water drag so that the athlete does not fall back in case of swimming in the water and he or she can swim uninterrupted by the forces of the water.

The bathing suit women wear, if in wet condition, are not good for their body. According to many reports of medical experts, wearing wet and damp swim suits may be a cause of infections and rashes on the human body. Experts also warn about the sharing bathing suits as it may also result in transmission of many harmful diseases. Damp bathing suits should be change immediately after the performed water based activity to prevent vaginal infection and itching in females and also to stop spreading the infection and rashes.
